MARCH 25 - 29, 2010 FLORIDA COMMUNITY OF MINDFULLNESS, Naples

Winter Retreat at the Franciscan Center

Start: Thursday, March 25, 2010 - 5:00pm
End: Monday, March 29, 2010 - 1:00pm

Dear Dharma friends,
The next residential retreat of our Florida Community of Mindfulness will be held March 25th through March 29th, 2010. The retreat is entitled "Cultivating Mental Tranquility and Liberative Insight: Practicing the Full Awareness of Breath Sutra." This four day silent retreat will be a continuation of the teachings and practices that began in the October retreat. Having attended the October retreat is not a prerequisite for this retreat, but all attendees will be asked to listen to the Dharma talks from the last retreat (available on our website) prior to it.

The Dharma talks will be commentary on the teachings found in the Full Awareness of Breath Sutra (Anapanasati). The meditation instructions will focus on the Buddha's teachings for cultivating the tools and skills necessary for a clear, serene and insightful mind. We will be also focusing on teachings related to the Seven Factors of Enlightenment to help clarify the requisites needed for living an awakened life. I will do my best to present these teachings and practices with clarity and concreteness so that they can easily become a daily practice for us to embrace. As usual, it will be a silent retreat. The silence affords us the opportunity to deepen our meditative experience while absorbing the experiential meaning of the teachings and practices presented during the retreat.

The retreat is being held in Tampa, Florida at The Franciscan Center, located on the Hillsborough River. The registration fee covers both room and board (three vegetarian meals daily), as well as any administrative and incidental expenses connected to the retreat. My teachings are offered in the Buddhist tradition of Dana, wherein the teacher freely gives of himself to his students out of gratitude for what he's received from his teachers and a desire to be of service. The student's response is also based on Dana, i.e. generosity that naturally flows from a sense of appreciation of the value of Dharma and gratitude to the living lineage.

The retreat begins with dinner on Thursday, March 25th, and ends after lunch on Monday, March 29th. The Franciscan Center has both single and double occupancy accommodations. If you are seeking double occupancy and have someone you wish to room with, please indicate their name. Otherwise, you will be placed in a room with another participant who's requested double occupancy as well. The registration fee for single occupancy is $360 and the fee for double-occupancy is $320. Please be aware that registration priority will be given to FCM members. The number of registrants is being limited to insure that everyone attending has an opportunity for individual teacher meetings, which are an important part of the retreat experience. If you are not already a member of our community and are interested in deepening your participation with us, please visit our website at www.floridamindfulness.org for information about membership (or to learn more about us).

To register for this retreat, please go our website at www.floridamindfulness.org and find the link for the retreat. The retreat registrar, John Daugirda (johndaugirda@me.com), will be sending additional information to registrants before the retreat begins. Directions to the Franciscan Center and other retreat information will be sent to all registrants prior to the retreat. The last day to register for the retreat is February 20th.
